While neighboring countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, have declared that 60% of their land will be preserved as nature reserves, Israel is moving forward with an absurd plan to pave Road 4431. This plan will severely harm Israel’s wildlife, contrary to all the biodiversity conservation treaties that Israel has committed to. Road 4431, which aims to connect Road 443 to Modi'in Illit, will cut through an area of critical ecological importance east of Jerusalem. This area is home to a herd of 70 gazelles (a sensitive and endangered species), striped hyenas (an endangered species), foxes, porcupines, and rare birds of prey such as the Eurasian hobby, lesser kestrel, Bonelli's eagle, Egyptian vulture, great white pelican, and more (according to surveys by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel).
See the beauty that the authorities want to destroy:
Paving this road will completely sever the last ecological corridor to this area, leaving the gazelle population and other wildlife trapped in a limited space east of Kfar Oranim. This will prevent the animals from moving freely to search for food, find mates, reproduce, and maintain general safety. The restriction will result in increased vehicle collisions and reduced genetic diversity, as seen in other cases in the country.
We want to prevent this disaster from happening. Therefore, next Wednesday, February 7th, at 7:00 PM, we will hold a Zoom event where anyone interested will have the opportunity to sign the opposition to Plan 4431.
